A Guide to the Best Hotel Breakfast Around the World

Breakfast. According to some, it’s the most significant meal of the day. We call it the hallmark of an excellent hotel. If you can find a hotel that serves a delicious breakfast, it’s worth staying longer. Combining this wonderful time of day with a stunning location—perhaps on a sun terrace with a view of the ocean or next to a smooth, powdery beach—will become the highlight of your vacation.
The most fabulous luxury hotels provide some of the world’s most sumptuous and diverse types of breakfasts, including classic options like eggs Benedict and freshly made pastries and more decadent options like caviar and Champagne. These are our top selections, in no particular order, of the most excellent hotel breakfasts available worldwide.
Regardless of your preferred breakfast taste—hot, cold, spicy, salty, or sweet—these hotel breakfasts from around the world will get you out of bed and moving.
1- The Stanford Inn By The Sea, California
Discover the epitome of casual California living at The Stanford Inn By The Sea, a magnificent Mendocino family house and organic farm whose vegan cuisine and healthy lifestyle philosophy translate into delicious breakfasts with a sustainable bent. Stanford herbed polenta is one of the highlights of the breakfast menu, and its famous brunch dish is sautéed garden greens with cashew cream sauce and braising sauce. During each visit, the waffles and pancakes served with organic maple syrup and seasonal fruit compote are a must-try.
2- Amber Kampot, Cambodia
Amber Kampot, close to Kampot city in Cambodia, offers luxurious villas and serene riverbank surroundings. The resort offers delicious breakfasts that combine flavours from Southeast Asia and the West, such as Khmer noodles and Indonesian fried rice (try the sweet, sticky sesame balls!). Regional specialities like beef stew served with French toast. There are baked beans, grilled bacon, sausages, cherry tomato confit, homemade hash browns, and two farm eggs for an American breakfast. Every component is obtained locally and is influenced by what’s in season in Cambodia.
3- The Peninsula, Paris
Looking up at mouldings gunked up from too many reckless “refreshes” at several grande dame hotels, one could long ponder what those dining rooms and lobby areas may have looked like in their prime. The Peninsula Paris leaves nothing to the imagination with its painstakingly restored 1908 Belle Époque carved wood, gold and bronze gilding, hand-painted walls and murals, mosaic floors, and stained glass ceilings. Breakfast is served with all the fanfare and ceremony of bygone eras at the luxurious Le Lobby, which serves classic European, American, and Cantonese dishes.
4- Rothay Manor Boutique Hotel, Cumbria
Only a short stroll from Lake Windermere’s shores, the Rothay Manor Boutique Hotel is a warm haven on the outskirts of Ambleside. The prestigious Head Chef and Champion of Champions from BBC 2’s Great British Menu, Daniel McGeorge, has helped the establishment’s fine-dining restaurant get three AA Rosettes. His substantial breakfasts highlight Cumbrian ingredients and classic English delicacies like black pudding.
5- Ett Hem, Stockholm
The exquisite way in which Ilse Crawford layered subdued earth tones with 18th- to 21st-century Scandinavian architecture in this 12-room hotel has been well documented. Breakfast lives up to the property’s unstated motto: It’s like your house, only better. It’s an equally painterly picture of having rye bread, raspberry and cloudberry jams, almond granola, smoked ham, and organic eggs presented on mismatched harmonised porcelain plates.
6- Brae, Victoria
Chef Dan Hunter kept “brekkie” simple when he introduced six rooms next to his popular restaurant last year, drawing inspiration for his food from Brae’s 30-acre farm. A meal isn’t truly Australian without fruit, jams, and honey to add to the muesli. Brae’s are created with hand-sourced ingredients from its beehive or plums and berries from its orchards. Making homemade sourdough takes several days: the dough is fermented for 22 hours in a chilly room after being left out overnight and then cooked in an outside wood-fired oven. Chef Dan uses house-cured charcuterie from pigs grown on free-range at Victoria’s renowned Greenvale Farm instead of bacon.
7- Isle of Eriska Hotel, Spa and Island, Scotland
Isle of Eriska Hotel, Spa, and Island offers an exceptional luxury experience and is a stunning haven in the West Highlands. In addition to classic favourites like poached eggs on toasted muffins with hollandaise sauce and a choice of eggs Benedict, Royal, Florentine, Balmoral, or Highland, the hotel’s breakfast menu features Scottish ingredients and inventive options like porridge brulée with whisky and cream. You can also enjoy a signature full Scottish breakfast and traditional Scottish porridge. Whenever feasible, we procure all of our ingredients from regional vendors.
8- Le Bristol Paris
The hotel’s Michelin-starred Epicure restaurant’s speciality breakfast studies classic, bygone opulence. Served with fresh fruit and a side of nutritious fromage blanc, Chef Éric Fréchon (who has been with us since 1999) will start your day with Parma ham and burrata, smoked salmon and blini and a soft-boiled egg topped with crème fraîche, Sologne caviar and an edible 23-karat gold leaf. All of it is presented with Champagne and hand-painted Limoges porcelain. Every month, the somm matches a different vintage; in December, the vintage is Dom Pérignon 2006. It may allow you to use your credit card while walking down the street St-Honoré with much more freedom.
9- Aman Tokyo, Japan
A small-scale representation of Japanese culture is breakfast. Here, the harmony of flavour, colour, and texture is well accomplished. This wrapped Tamagoyaki has a tangier flavour than the eggs we often eat. It comes with pickled veggies, ginger beef, and shredded radish. Rice and fish are served with marinated eggplant, shishito peppers, taro and carrot. You will be served congee rice, Japanese oatmeal, or steamed rice, enhanced by pickled plums (next to the fruit). The renowned Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo provides salmon served with dried seaweed after a quick bake.
10- Chiltern Firehouse, London
After nightfall, the opulent Marylebone restaurant attracts many celebrities, including David Cameron, Marina Abramović, Cara Delevingne, and the constant photographers. However, during the peaceful early morning hours, it is a comfortable and serene haven amid the city’s trendiest area. This is almost dessert-like vanilla porridge, with a generous helping of pure vanilla. Additionally, the Anglo-fied version of eggs Benedict is cooked using maple-cured gammon from Aubrey Allen, the best butcher in Suffolk, and eggs from heritage English breed Burford Brown chickens raised on a free range.
11- Four Seasons Hotel Amman
A dollop of tangy and creamy labneh may be added to a dish of fatteh, a Middle Eastern version of chilaquiles, and pieces of chickpeas and toasted flatbread. Alternatively, it can be stirred into a bowl of berries. Manakish is comparable to pizza; it’s a handcrafted pita topped with a generous amount of za’atar. This dish is accompanied by green and black Nabali olives harvested from a grove close to the historic Greco-Roman city of Jerash. Serve crisp radishes and cucumbers alongside bite-sized pieces of falafel flecked with cumin and coriander. This side dish pairs well with almost everything. And naturally, a cup of fragrant, earthy mint tea. Purchase some to-go from the adjacent café Turtle Green Tea Bar on Rainbow Street.
12- Casa Acayu, Brazil
A sophisticated, off-grid refuge on Costa dos Corais, the nation’s most significant marine conservation project, Casa Acayu may be Brazil’s best-kept secret. Breakfast is provided here all day long in a particular location that faces the azure ocean. A menu of hot options includes various tapioca pancakes, croque monsieur, poached eggs à la Casa Acayu (served with bread, tomatoes, cheese, basil and ham), and fried banana with curd cheese and cinnamon. Other options include natural fruit juices, tropical fruits, homemade bread, cheeses and cold cuts. All of these dishes are exceptional Casa Acayu offerings.
